About 3 of 4

3. Academy

Primary Academy

This is for children in primary school education and is normally from year 3 to 6, but younger children are welcome as long as they are able to run around a pitch and hold a hockey stick. Training sessions for Primary Academy will run on Fridays during term-time - see the Friday dates listed in the Secondary Academy section.

Each session runs at Wellsway Sports Centre from 4.30-5.30pm and is coached by Andy Rhys Jones plus assistants.

We are expecting to take part in some mini-hockey matches against other clubs this season. If your son/daughter is already a member of another hockey club, it is absolutely fine to come to Junior Academy simply for extra training but not take part in matches.

Secondary Academy

This is for children in secondary school education. All sessions take place at Wellsway Sports Centre.

Starting from September 2019, we have two sessions running:

Full Junior Membership

The first training session is from 6 - 7pm every Wednesday during school terms 1 to 4 which gives to about 30 sessions. Players can take part in fixtures against same-aged local teams plus adult fixtures once you are aged 14 years' old.

Wednesday night training is coached by one of our team of coaches including Andy Rhys-Jones and Scott Tweedie.

We run an additional training session on Fridays (boys and girls).
Each session runs from 3.20-4.20pm and is coached by Andy Rhys Jones.

Academy Membership is £65 per season (which runs from September through March each year and includes all sessions

How to Join

Children are welcome to join at any point during the season. Generally, we would encourage players to start in September or January, but there's no problem if that isn't possible.

We will take some basic details from you (from parents for Primary Academy) at the side of the pitch. We will use those details to create an account for you on this website which will allow you to inform us about further information such as emergency contact details and essential medical information. Or you can join yourself by clicking the 'sign -up' button top right of the page. You will need to register the child and then register yourself as their parent.

You can then download the Pitchero 'Club member' app and keep up to date with news and notifications. You can also purchase membership through the app.

Alternatively the Pitchero system will also allow us to generate your invoice which will be sent to you online. You can either pay by credit/debit card or via PayPal.

In case of any queries regarding membership and payments, please email our Membership Officer via membership@keynshamhockey.club.

Sports Clothing: Trainers/astroturf trainers, shorts/skirt, t-shirt/training top/tracksuit. Football or studded boots must not be worn.
For Secondary Academy, shin pads MUST be worn whenever playing/training for hockey and are strongly recommended for Primary Academy. Gum shields are strongly recommended at all Academy sessins. Please speak to the coach if you have any queries about equipment.
Do not wear watches/earrings/other jewellery.

What else does s/he need to bring?
A drink, preferably water, there will be breaks to take on liquid throughout the session.
A hockey stick, if you have one. We will provide a selection of sticks each week, so you do not need to purchase one.

Can they bring a phone with them for emergencies?
These must be switched off or not responded to during the coaching session. The coaches will have a file containing emergency contact details should this be needed.

Toilets/Changing rooms
These are available on-site in the Sports Centre next to the pitch. Should children wish to use them, the coaches will advise of where they are, but will not necessarily be able to accompany children to them.

What happens if my child need to miss a week?
Should your child be ill and miss a session we are not able to refund the course payment, however in cases of prolonged illness we may grant an exception. It is you/your child's responsibility to inform the coaches of any injury/illness that could impact on their ability to train – before the session starts.

Coaches
Please encourage your child to listen to the coaches; they are there to help and look after your safety and wellbeing.
