U12s come a superb 4th in Avon Junior Mini-Hockey Tournament

On Sunday 10th March, our U12s took part in the annual Avon Junior Hockey League's mini-hockey (7-a-side) tournament. 16 teams took part drawn from clubs across Avon. Keynsham was placed in a group with South Glos, Team Bath Buccs, Firebrands.

As we hoped, we beat South Glos 4-0 in our first game with Anselm scoring twice and Finley and Ted each scoring once.

The second game was going to be the hardest game against Bath Buccs. We kept the score to 0-0 for most of the game thanks to some amazing goalkeeping from Seren. But, especially after Bradley was injured in defence, the pressure eventually told and Bath Buccs scored. With the final play of the game, Bath Buccs scored again from a shuttle run and so won 2-0.

In the third game, Keynsham scored a great victory over Firebrands 3-1 with two goals from Ted and one from Anselm. This put Keynsham second in their group behind Bath Buccs.

In the quarter-finals, Keynsham was then drawn against Yate, the winner of their group. Keynsham played superbly, with further excellent goalkeeping from Seren preventing some seemingly certain goals, and won 3-1 with two goals from Finley and one from Anselm.

Next up was Westbury - the team which had looked to be one of the best teams at the tournament during the morning group stage. Despite fighting hard, Westbury were the better team and beat Keynsham 5-0. Keynsham then played Old Bristolians in the 3rd/4th play-off. Keynsham leading 2-1 at one point, but OBs fought back to a the final score of 2-2 with two goals from Anselm. In a tense series of shuttle runs, Old Bristolians came out the winners by the narrow margin of 3 goals to 2.

In the final Bath Buccs played and defeated Westbury 1-0. So the only two teams that had defeated Keynsham in open play were the finalists.

The team was Seren, Anselm, Edward, Kaci, Erin, Ted, Finley and Bradley. Thanks to Matt Smith and Cath Burston who managed the team.
