Richard May16 Jun - 22:55

The West's first ever club to win an England Hockey Emerging Club or Club of the Year award.

Keynsham is thriving as a development hub and inclusive club.
- England Hockey

England Hockey named Keynsham as the national "Emerging Club of the Year 2025" at an award ceremony in Leicester. It is awarded to a club which:

  • Has fewer than 250 members. As of April 2025, KHC had 195 members.
  • Has shown marked improvement in key areas over the past 12 months.
  • Has shown strong leadership, innovation, and good business practice to ensure the long-term sustainability of the club.
  • Provides a friendly, welcoming, inclusive and social environment for all.
  • Has appropriately trained people and volunteers who are valued and rewarded.
  • Proactively offers all people within the club (players, umpires, coaches, leaders) the opportunity to develop themselves.
  • Offers relevant playing and non-playing opportunities to all club members.
  • Works within the community to increase participation and awareness through formal and / or informal hockey opportunities – and can show examples of diverse community connections which have brought new people into hockey or taken hockey to new places.
  • Is an England Hockey member club and compliant with England Hockey policies.

In addition the following things are considered "Desirable":

  • Achieved or working towards England Hockey ClubMark. KHC previously achieved ClubMark in 2020 and is currently working towards re-acreditation.
  • Takes an innovative approach to fundraising and community engagement. Our £1 membership offers for new membership ran during 2024. We raised over £3,000 for charity last season and ran taster sessions for local cubs, brownies and scout groups.
  • Is a growing club in player numbers. KHC attracted 35 new or returning members and allowed us to start a new Women's 4s team in 2024 and a Women's 5s team in 2025.

England Hockey said:

"Keynsham HC has grown rapidly this season, celebrating promotions for three women's team and launching a new Women's 4s. With a £1 membership initiative, the club is making hockey more accessible and inclusive alongside expanding their membership.

"The club has also raised nearly £3,000 for charity and expanded their youth reach by coaching local Cubs and Brownies. Additional over 30 regional goalkeepers attend specialist training and members are supporting through coaching qualifications. Overall, Keynsham is thriving as a development hub and inclusive club."
